Rotary District 6150 Governor Nancy Leonhardt was the presenter for the August 29 meeting of the Rotary Club of Heber Springs. Governor Leonhardt began her remarks focusing on the accomplishments of all 39 Rotary Clubs in the district during the 2016-17 fiscal year. Together, Rotarians in the district contributed more than $189,000 to the Rotary Foundation, which allows the international organization to accomplish the work that it funds throughout the world. The clubs also awarded 112 Paul Harris Fellows (so named in honor of the founder of Rotary International), and hosted four inbound and 3 outbound Youth Exchange Scholars. Continuing the focus on the leadership of tomorrow, clubs in the district mentored 3 Rotaract Clubs for College Students and 20 Interact Clubs for High School students, and sponsored 34 students for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp. “It was quite a successful year,” Governor Leonhardt stated.

Looking forward to this year, the Governor laid out goals related to supporting and strengthening clubs, increasing humanitarian service, enhancing public image and increasing awareness of the good work that Rotary Clubs engage in across the district.

In Spring of 2018, Governor Leonhardt stated, a district-wide “Make a Difference Day” involving all 39 Rotary clubs in the district is planned. On one day, all 39 clubs will perform a day of community service. “Rotary Clubs engage in many humanitarian and community service projects throughout the year,” she said, “but we have not been effective in getting the word out about who we are and what we do. This day of service is planned, in part, to let the public know about all the things that Rotary does to support local causes in communities around the world and how others can join us in service.”

Rotarians are “People of Action” who are making a difference locally, nationally and internationally.  The Object of Rotary is "to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise." The Rotary Club of Heber Springs meets each Tuesday at noon on the ASU-Heber Springs Campus.
