ASU-Beebe to Celebrate 90 Years of Education With Event Series
BEEBE, Ark. – Arkansas State University-Beebe held a press conference on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017 announcing plans to celebrate the university’s 90th anniversary with a series of events.
Interim Chancellor Roger Moore welcomed those in attendance and unveiled plans to celebrate the relationship the university shares with the surrounding campus communities in presenting four events this fall. This commemoration is “90 Years of Education, 90 Days of Celebration.”
The event series will begin with a lecture and book signing by author and ASU-Beebe graduate, Cara Brookins on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Searcy High School Performing Arts Center. Brookins’ book “Rise, How a House Built a Family,” tells the true story of how she and her children built their own home with skills they learned by watching Youtube videos. The celebrations continue in October with several free community events. On Saturday, October 21, ASU-Beebe will partner with Sugarloaf Heritage Council to host a ‘Climb and Dine’ event. Sugarloaf Mountain provides visitors an opportunity to explore several of the trails that lead to the top of the mountain to behold the panoramic view of Heber Springs, nearby Little Red River and the Heber Springs campus. The hike will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a free BBQ lunch at 11 a.m. at the pavilion on the Heber Springs campus. The next event will be a FREE community concert by American Idol winner Kris Allen at the Beebe campus on Saturday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. This event is open to the public. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged, but no outside food or drink will be permitted through the gates. The final event of the season will be a special Veteran’s Day celebration in honor of ASU-Beebe’s long relationship with Little Rock AFB and military students in the community. This event will be held on Thursday, November 9, starting at 12:30 p.m. on the main campus at Beebe. This event is also open to the public, and all veterans are invited to attend. ASU-Beebe was founded in 1927 by the Arkansas Legislature under Act 282. Established then as the Junior Agricultural School of Central Arkansas. From there the college later joined with Arkansas State University in 1955. The succeeding 50 years saw the college grow through several evolutions including the addition of technical and specialized short-course job training programs, as well as expanding to campuses at Little Rock Air Force Base (1965), began delivering Online course work (1999), Heber Springs campus (2000) and Searcy (2003).
