Jerry Jackson of the Special Grant Committee for The Rotary Club of Heber Springs was honored to present a "Lillian Swartz Pearce
Grant" to The Freedom Way Ministry on April 20th. Rotary's
Special Grant Committee had determined that The Freedom Way Ministry would be
one of the local non-profit organizations to receive a portion of the funds
recently bequeathed to the Rotary Club through the Estate of Lillian Swartz
Pearce.
Freedom Way, a Multi-Denominational Christian Ministry, was formed over 14
years ago, and is a mission of The First Baptist Church in Heber Springs.
But, like so many non-profits, its existence is unknown to many local
residents. Located at 4th and Spring Street, Freedom Way provides a
welcoming, spiritual environment for the homeless, for inmates, ex-offenders,
their families, and those in the prison of addiction. Services are held
on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, offering help to individuals seeking to
integrate back into society, learn social skills and become a productive part
of the community. Chaplain Lloyd Blanton spoke of the great need for
increased living quarters at the Ministry's "Hill of Hope", which is
their homeless mission, located at 502 Heber Springs Road West. He stated
that all funds received from Rotary's Special Grant would be used to provide
more living facilities at their "Hill of Hope".
