The Cleburne County Community Foundation, an affiliate of Arkansas Community Foundation, announced $20,422 in grants for nonprofits in Cleburne County. The grants, made possible by the Community Foundation’s Giving Tree Fund and the Dr. Bill and Jo Ann Wells Christian Health Center Endowment, were presented at an awards dinner held at the Red Apple Inn on April 10.
The awards dinner, attended by nearly 100 people from all over the
county, also gave opportunity to thank patrons, board members and other
community leaders for their support of charitable causes in the county.
This year’s grant recipients include:
- The Arkansas Dream Center. The Arkansas Dream Center will use the funding for the relocation of the food pantry’s garden beds, which provide fresh vegetables to pantry clients throughout the growing season.
- Baptist Health Foundation. The Foundation will use the money from their grant for the purchase of the Accu-Vein Illuminator for the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. This equipment literally lights up a patient’s veins, making it much easier to start IVs, and is especially beneficial in providing services to the elderly, to dehydrated, overweight, or diabetic patient populations.
- Breakin’ Bread Soup Kitchen. Breakin’ Bread will use their grant funding to help fund the purchase of a convection oven to aid them in preparing the 200-300 meals provided free of charge daily at the soup kitchen.
- Community Action Program for Central Arkansas (CAPCA). CAPCA’s grant will be used to fund this year’s Holiday Food Box and Angel Tree Food Box distribution program, serving families all the items they will need to prepare a holiday meal.
- Cleburne County 4-H Foundation. The Foundation’s grant award will be used to fund leadership programs for 4-H participants in Cleburne County. These programs include school enrichment, workshops, training activities and events that will encourage youth leadership development.
- First Apostolic Church of Concord Food Pantry. The food pantry will use funding from their grant to purchase food from the Arkansas Food Bank. The food pantry serves needy families in the Concord area.
- Freedom Way. Grant funding will be used to help fund the expansion of the Hill of Hope, a ministry that works to alleviate the problem of homelessness in Cleburne County by offering shelter to those in need.
- Heber Springs Humane Society. The Humane Society will use their grant funding to repair the roof of the East Kennel Holding Area which houses animals, giving them a safe and dry place to live while awaiting adoption.
- Heber Springs Lions Club. The Lions Club’s grant funding will be used to support vision screening efforts for people ages 6 months and up across the county. These screenings are offered at no cost to clients.
- Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Cleburne County. The funding received will provide for scholarships to low income single parents in Cleburne county.
- The CALL in Cleburne County. The CALL will use the grant money received to provide training to new foster parents in Cleburne County.
- The Other Side. The grant funding received will be used to rebuild the restroom facilities adjacent to the gymnasium at this faith-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. The gymnasium not only provides a place of recreation for the residents, but also provides a location for the organization’s fund-raisers and public events.
- West Side Public Schools EAST program. The grant funding provided will support the EAST program’s community garden efforts, which will provide fresh vegetables for needy students at West Side Schools, with hopes to eventually support area food pantries as well.
- White River Health System Foundation. Grant funding will be used to purchase bariatric wheelchairs for both the Drasco and Sugarloaf Clinics, to assist obese patients in receiving compassionate care.
The Cleburne County Community Foundation makes grants through the
Giving Tree Program annually. The next grant cycle will begin in January 2018.
