Boater’s Education – Arkansas Game & Fish Commission FREE

Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1986, and of legal age to operate a motorboat or sailboat, must have successfully completed an approved AGFC Boating Education Course and carry proof while operating a motorboat or sailboat on Arkansas water. Under the age of 18 must have a signed parental waiver. You must register for this class in advance.

This is a defensive driving course designed for mature drivers. Persons 55 and older who complete the course may receive a discount on their automobile insurance. Those who take the four-hour course will be better drivers and likely extend their driving years. Seating is limited.
BLS (Basic Life Support) for Medical Professionals $35

After completion of this course, you will be certified in child and adult CPR, first aid and how to use an AED. The class is great for anyone needing or wanting to learn the new approach to Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Seating is limited so register soon.

Computer Basics $55

Over the course of this six-day workshop, you will learn how to effectively maneuver through your computer’s programs. All introductory skills will be taught “hands-on” from correctly turning on and off the computer to file management. We will learn how to utilize programs, send e-mails, work with pictures and explore other items of interest to the class.
Excel for Beginners $40

Students will be introduced to the concept of Excel spreadsheet basic creation. You will learn to build your own sheet from the individual cell upward to a fully formulated spreadsheet. Join us to find the keys to drive this software in the direction to meet your needs! Here’s what you’ll get in this class: An Introduction to the ribbon and the ease of working with Microsoft Excel, cell structure, an introduction to the concept that each cell is its own playground and how to work with the individual playgrounds to create the whole amusement park. You will create a spreadsheet by setting up vendors and a calendar for your own mock business. In the final class, we will finish our Excel project. We will learn to formulate in order to provide a good look at our monthly inventory costs.
Excel II for Beginners $40

Students will recap the basics of Excel. After getting reacquainted with the essentials, students will be given tips for everyday uses, such as how to freeze cells, search and sort the document. Learning how to use the formula tab options, students will decide which formula is best for their situation, progressing on to troubleshooting problems and combating errors. Finally, participants will be able to customize documents by learning how to work conditional formatting and formulate charts for visual aids.

“i” Learn - Basics & Personalization of iPad and iPhone: Come get an introductory tour of your iPhone or iPad. Bring your “gadget” and learn the basics of navigating, getting organized and keeping your device up to date. You will also discover great ways to personalize your device: how to customize settings to meet your needs/preferences, finding and using great apps, social media use, as well as other useful tips and tricks.

Cake Decorating for Kids, Ages 8-12 $35

Choose one or all of these ONE-DAY classes. Kids will have the opportunity to learn the flare of cake decorating. We will practice simple techniques using a variety of icing tips. It will be a fun, hands-on way to let kids express their creativity! Each class will focus on a different theme.
Ballroom Dance for Beginners $50

This five-week class is designed to raise one’s comfort level with social dancing and provide the opportunity to discover the joy and well-being that comes from this social outlet. You will learn the basics of American Style ballroom including a brief history, steps, lead/follow and body positioning. No partner necessary! Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. This small insect has a big job. They assist with pollination of thousands of plants as well as producing one of our favorite treats – honey!! If you have ever considered beekeeping, this class will help you get started. In this threeSaturday workshop, participants will be introduced to the biology of bees and building equipment. The second week will cover pests and diseases as well as location and setup. In the final class, participants will hear about the different types of bees and enjoy a field trip to a bee yard.
FrogWatch FREE

In the first session of this classroom workshop, you will learn to identify all the frogs and toads in our area by their calls. Students will follow a PowerPoint presentation and learn to mimic the frog calls. Handouts with visual memory aids will be provided. In addition, you will learn why they are important, why they are in trouble and what can be done to help them. The first session is a pre-requisite for the second session which includes an introduction to wetlands and frog monitoring training for the FrogWatch USA™ national network administered by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Citizen scientists around the country listen to frogs and toads from February through August at a site of their choice and submit their findings to a national database. For more about FrogWatch USA™, see www.arkansasfrogsandtoads.org. There is no charge for this workshop, but register must in advance.

This class teaches basic motor skills followed by basic tumbling which will include a variety of cartwheels and backbends. This class is designed to teach children with no previous tumbling or one year of experience. Balance beam skills also will be taught.

PLT Environmental Education – Let’s Go Outside & Learn $10

Project Learning Tree is an environmental education program that uses the forest as a “window” into the natural world. PLT’s fun, hands-on, interdisciplinary activities help young people gain an awareness and knowledge of the world around them, as well as their place within it. The workshop will introduce participants to the PLT curriculum, provide the opportunity to experience several activities and learn how to implement PLT activities into their own classrooms and education programs. Participants will receive a PLT Environmental Education Activity Guide containing 96 interdisciplinary activities correlated to the state and national education frameworks including the English Language Arts and Mathematics Common Core. This workshop provides great environmental education resources and activities for both formal classroom teachers and non-formal educators. Come share your knowledge and experiences with workshop participants and learn from others as well. Bring a sack lunch. Six hours Professional Development credit approved by ADE.

PAINTING: Brenda Lawrence is offering a variety of Bob Ross favorites this spring. This tried-and-true method can make anyone an aspiring “artist.” No experience required. Ms. Lawrence makes sure you receive plenty of individual attention and support. Join together with family or friends, relax, share good conversation and laughs and come away with a finished work of art! All supplies are included. Wear clothes for painting, bring a sack lunch and enjoy a Saturday of fun. (See color samples of artwork on our website.)
