Building Improvement Grants Available for Downtown Merchants

Downtown Network Heber Springs is offering Building Improvement Grants to merchants in the downtown historic commercial district.  Applications for the grants will be accepted until Friday, January 20, 2017. The grants may be used for signage, awnings, or storefront improvements. Four grants of $250 each are available, and merchants will be required to contribute a dollar-for-dollar match.

Downtown Network Executive Director Kathy Phillips said, “These grants are made possible by grant money received from our parent organization, Main Street Arkansas. Main Street Arkansas is a program of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, so their focus is on not only promoting our downtown areas, but on preserving the character of our historic buildings.”

Once the application period ends, all grant applications will be reviewed by Main Street Arkansas. Those selected to be funded will need to provide “before and after” photographic documentation. Complete guidelines are included on the application, which can be found on Downtown Heber Springs Facebook page: facebook.com/DowntownHeberSprings, or may be requested by emailing: DowntownHeberSprings@hotmail.com or calling Kathy Phillips at 501-270-2204. Copies of the application will also be available for pickup at the Chamber of Commerce offices.

The Downtown Network Heber Springs is a downtown revitalization program that utilizes the Main Street approach to downtown revitalization. This approach has been used successfully in more than 1200 communities across the country, focusing on four areas: organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring.
