New American Legion Commander Elected Today
The American Legion Department of Arkansas is pleased to announce the election of Verlon Abram, of American Legion Post #64 in Heber Springs, as the 2015-2016 State Commander of the American Legion for the State of Arkansas. Commander Abram was elected June 28, 2015 in North Little Rock during the 97th Arkansas State Convention of the state’s largest veteran’s organization.
Abram was born and raised in Cleburne County, Arkansas, and graduated from Heber Springs High School. After high school, Verlon joined the ROTC Program at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas, where he graduated and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Abram was commissioned into the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps, and began his service to country at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. During his stint of military service, he also served at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, and the Red River Army Depot in Texas. He also served as with the 162nd Ordnance Company and 552nd Artillery Group in Germany and the Netherlands, where he worked in nuclear weapons assignments as well as with chemical weapons, nuclear weapons, and various types of explosive ordnance.
Commander Abram worked for the next 29 years up the chain of leadership and responsibility working at Red River Army Depot as supply supervisor, ammo supply specialist, production controller, and equipment manager, and retired from civil service in 2006, and moved back to the Heber Springs area in 2007.
Commander Abram looks forward to working with every American Legion Post, every District Commander, and all of the American Legion Department Officers in the State of Arkansas to make the American Legion Department of Arkansas the best it has ever been, and sincerely solicits support in this endeavor.
Commander Abram resides in Wilburn, and has two children, and three grandchildren.
