2024 Total Solar Eclipse

April 8, 2024

We are so excited that Heber Springs is in the path of totality for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024! We want this to be a positive experience for visitors to the Heber Springs area so that they will want to visit our wonderful community again. This will be the first time many will visit Heber Springs, and we want repeat visitors!

The benchmark for this event is the Fireworks Extravaganza. Approximately 10,000-15,000 attend that event. The eclipse is projected to see 2-3 times that amount. Here are a few reminders, tips, and general information that may help your business prepare for the eclipse. There is also some valuable information in this video: 2024 Eclipse (vimeo.com).

Restaurants:

• Limit menu to eclipse-themed items to expedite food preparation and help with increased food storage.
• Promote eclipse-themed items or specials.
• Increase product orders and the frequency in which you make them.
• Consider extending hours to accommodate more guests.
• Look for ways to increase seating.
• Consider creating an outdoor to-go process.

Retail:

• Increase product orders for staple products and supplies.
• Consider ordering eclipse-themed souvenirs.
• Think about how your parking lot will be utilized. Will you allow parking for non-guests?

Hotels:

• Consider appropriate pricing levels and minimum stay policies.
• Provide updates on occupancy levels leading up to the eclipse to the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce.
• Increase product orders for supplies.

Gas Stations:

• Increase product and supply orders. Many gas stations ran out of fuel and water during the 2017 eclipse.
• Consider carrying sourvenirs or eclipse-related products.

Manufacturers:

• Consider increased traffic creating the potential for delayed deliveries or trucking routes.
• If your facility will be closed, will your parking lots be open for viewing areas?

Banking:

• Increase change-making abilities for public and business as well as ATM levels.

General Information and Suggestions for Everyone:

• The benchmark for this event is the Fireworks Extravaganza. 10,000-15,000 visitors visit Heber Springs for that event. The eclipse is projected to see 2-3x that amount.
• Do you have back-up internet in the event of internet or cell service outage?  
• Consider adjusting hours in the days leading up to the day of the eclipse.
• Communicate any updates on social media and websites. Also, please contact the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce with updates.
• Consider ways to expand parking areas.
• Have eclipse-themed signage for your business.
• Let's welcome all of the visitors to our area and give them a positive experience!
