Springfest 2017

Springfest 2017

Swing into spring with a weekend stay in spectacular Heber Springs for the 30th annual Springfest on April 28 and 29. This freefestival is packed top to bottom with great family fun, starting at noon on Friday and continuing all day Saturday. Festival home base is Spring Park, with additional events throughout the city of Heber Springs.

In Spring Park, you’ll find an extensive arts and crafts show, featuring handmade items like jewelry, soap, leatherwork, furniture and toys. You’ll also enjoy classic festival-food favorites, from corndogs and onion blossoms to ice cream and kettle corn. Live music from local and regional names keeps things hopping at the Band Shell.

Nature-loving kiddos will have plenty to explore at Springfest, including pony rides, a petting zoo and the immersive butterfly experience at the Butterfly Pavilion, sponsored by First Electric Cooperative. Tickets to the Pavilion are $3, which includes a butterfly net. Train rides and inflatables for all ages will also be available.

On Saturday, transportation buffs can spend the day admiring the exhibits at the Classic Car Show at the Heber Springs Municipal Airport from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The Mountain Top Volkswagen Club will sponsor the 11th Annual Volkswagen Car Show in Spring Park, where Volkswagen enthusiasts can discover collectible cars from around the state, or display their own restorations.

Enjoy the beautiful sights of the area by participating in the Ride Like a Mountain Man cycling challenge. The Greers Ferry Lake Trails Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building multiuse trails in the Heber Springs area, hosts both a social 20-mile and a more challenging 55-mile ride, Both rides begin at 7:30 a.m. at Sulphur Creek Outfitters with the ride-survivor’s and cook-out party starting at 10 am

Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony

Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Law Enforcement Memorial Day, and set aside that week to be recognized as National Police Week. This year, Police Week runs from May 14th through May 20th. In cities all across the country, Law Enforcement Agencies will conduct ceremonies during Police Week to honor those officers that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. In keeping with that tradition, and in honor of all those brave men and women that died in the line of duty, the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office will hold its first Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on May 15, 2017, at 12pm. The ceremony will be held on the North lawn of the Old Courthouse in Heber Springs. The Sheriff’s Office would like to invite you to attend, and would be sincerely honored at your presence.
As of today, there have been 38 Line-of-Duty-Deaths in 2017. We are grateful to every one of these officers for their brave service and sacrifice; may they rest in peace, and may we continue in their absence.

Sincerely,

Sheriff Chris Brown
